About the Workshop:
This experience-sharing workshop invites you to float around the world of songwriting and song-making with Arjun Kar and Samin Yasar. Together they will share their reflections on lyrics, composition, melody, and the philosophy of song-making.
Is a song only about music and words, or does it hold a world beyond them? Where do melodies and lyrics originate—within us, or from the world around us? The moderators will reflect on their influences and creative processes, raising questions about genre, philosophy, and the art of songwriting itself.
The session will be followed by an Open Mic (registration-based) where participants—musicians, lyricists, and composers—can share their own songwriting and creative journeys.
About the Moderators:
- Arjun Kar: A Kolkata-based folk songwriter and singer influenced by Americana folk. His debut album Other Side of Time demonstrates his distinct style and approach. Arjun will share his perspectives on crafting songs and possibilities within songwriting.
- Samin Yasar: Guitarist of Firoze Jong and a houseband member of Hatirpool Sessions. More an arranger and composer than a guitarist, Samin has extensive experience in Bangladesh’s indie scene. Guided by the philosophy of “Follow the melody,” he will share his insights into composition and arrangement.
